Congratulations
on Your Nomination!

You’ve been nominated for the 2025 Salty Awards—and that’s a big deal.

Your hard work, values, and the impact you’re making have been noticed and celebrated by the Salt Spring community.

Being nominated means locals see you as a business or organization that’s truly making a difference.

What’s Next?

Step 1: Accept Your Nomination

If you’d like to move forward, all you need to do is complete a short Nominee Application. Below is a preview of everything you'll need to provide.

Yes, it will be a bit of work. But this nomination process has been created with busy business owners like you in mind and we've keep the requirements to a minimum, while also working to maintain the meaning and value to being nominated and winning a Salty Award.

SUBMIT YOUR NOMINATION PACKAGE

First, we’ll ask you for some basic information about your business:

Contact details: your name, business name, address (nominations are open to Salt Spring businesses only!), email, and phone number.

Then, we’ll ask you for some additional information about your business - don't worry, none of this info will be used to assess your nomination. This is purely to help us, the Salt Spring Chamber of Commerce, to get a snapshot of where businesses on Salt Spring are at.

You’ll answer five general questions we’re asking every nominee. These will help us better understand the local business landscape:

  1. Financial Performance – How has your business performed this year compared to last year?

    • Example: “We’re up 15% from last year” or “We’re down 8% due to seasonal changes.”

    • This doesn’t need to be detailed—just a snapshot helps us see the overall trend.

  2. Corporate Stewardship & Community Support – How does your business give back beyond day-to-day operations?

    • Examples: donating a percentage of profits, sponsoring community events, providing services to local causes, investing in environmental practices.

    • We’ll ask you to estimate the value of these contributions and express it as a percentage of your 2024 annual operating costs.

  3. Employee Satisfaction – What do you do to keep your team supported and happy?

    • Examples: regular check-ins, staff surveys, professional development opportunities, flexible scheduling, or team celebrations.

  4. Living Wage – Do you provide a living wage to your employees?

    • If yes, tell us how many employees this covers and share how you make it work for your business.

    • Example: “All 4 of our employees are paid above the living wage. We’ve made this possible by adjusting pricing and focusing on higher-value services.”

  5. Housing Support – Do you provide any help with housing for your employees?

    • Examples: offering staff accommodations, rental subsidies, or helping connect employees with local housing resources.

As part of confirming your nomination, there’s a one-time $25 submission fee per business. This small fee helps cover the costs of running the awards and keeps the celebration accessible for everyone.

Step 2: Category Questions

Finally, you’ll be taken to a page with three additional questions for each award category you’ve been nominated in.

  • If you’ve been nominated in one category, you’ll only answer those three questions.

  • If you’re lucky enough to be nominated in multiple categories—way to go you!—you’ll fill out three questions for each category you've been nominated in.

Step 3: Jury Review & Scoring

Once your application is submitted, it will be carefully reviewed by a panel of local entrepreneurs.

Each application will be evaluated using the following criteria, with scores assigned on a scale from 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest):

  • Alignment with Category Criteria – Does the business strongly fit the award category?

  • Contribution to Salt Spring – How meaningful is the business’s role in strengthening life on the island?

  • Innovation & Creativity – Does the business show originality and forward-thinking approaches?

  • Sustainability & Longevity – Is the business model sustainable and poised for long-term success?

  • Quality of Submission – Are responses clear, compelling, and well-supported?

You will be notified if you’ve been selected as one of our three finalists in your category - in mid October.

Step 4: Onsite Visits with Finalists

To get to know you beyond the application, jurors will visit the top three finalists in each category. These visits are relaxed and conversational—an opportunity to share what you do best, ask questions, and connect with fellow community members.

Jurors will have a set of guiding questions they’ll use to help them fairly and consistently assess each finalist’s nomination.

Finalists will be announced in mid-October.

Step 5: MARK YOUR CALENDAR + Celebrate WITH US

Finalists will be honoured at the Salty Awards Gala Evening on November 6th at Mahon Hall—a joyful, community-wide celebration of every nominee, finalist, and winner.

Tickets will be $45 each and will go on sale in early October.
