From kibble to community — Whiskers Pet Store invites members to gather for their upcoming Member Mixer on March 18th from 5:30 – 7pm.
Whiskers began as a dream — and a leap of faith. After 30 years each in education on the Sunshine Coast, Brian and his wife never imagined they would become pet store owners. But after falling in love with both the pet industry and Salt Spring Island, a joking “what if” became reality. In 2016, they opened Whiskers to fill a clear need on the island — and found renewed purpose in the process.
For nearly a decade, their motto has been simple: support pets and their parents with high-quality food at the best possible price. Today, Whiskers employs seven dedicated team members, has expanded twice, and offers everything from tag-making and a dog wash to special orders, deliveries, and adoption events with Cats of Salt Spring. Their monthly 10% off day and Christmas Cheer for Pets program reflect their commitment to caring for the whole community — no judgment, just support.
At this mixer, guests will meet the Whiskers team, hear about their upcoming 10-year celebration, and learn what’s on the horizon — including a new POS system and an expanded online presence.
The evening will include finger foods and refreshments, along with a chance to win two themed gift baskets — one for a cat and one for a dog. Attendees will also receive a special treat bag to take home for their furry family members.
Join fellow members for an evening of connection, conversation, and a celebration of a business that truly goes the extra mile for Salt Spring’s pets — and the people who love them.

Stowel Lake Farm is a thriving organic farm, retreat centre, and community that has been part of Salt Spring Island for over 50 years. Originally purchased by Lisa Lloyd, the land has evolved over decades into a vibrant hub of agriculture, wellness, and connection. Since Liz and Jen launched the retreat business in 2005, the farm has become a sought-after destination—now booked at least a year in advance and welcoming guests from near and far. And it's a rare treat for Salt Spring locals to get a chance to check this gem of a business out!
Today, Stowel Lake Farm employs more than 25 people for much of the year and is home to a flourishing no-till market garden and a bustling farm stand (truly more of a store!). Throughout the seasons, the farm hosts yoga and meditation retreats, dance gatherings, music camps, and wilderness-based soul programs—offering space for learning, creativity, and personal transformation.
At this mixer, guests will have the opportunity to connect with the Stowel Lake team, learn more about the evolution of the farm and retreat centre, and hear what’s growing next—both in the fields and in the community. The evening will include herbal tea, fresh veggies and dips, and Stowel Lake’s beloved farm cookies. One lucky attendee will win a $50 gift certificate in the main draw, and all guests will receive a voucher for one farm cookie to enjoy when the farm stand reopens in April. Join fellow members for an evening of conversation, connection, and a closer look at one of Salt Spring Island’s most dynamic and inspiring spaces.
